Title:
It's a Dog's Life
It’s a Dog’s Life - this ones mine.
It started out bad but now I’m fine.
I used to live in a dark cold shed.
I wasn’t loved and had to howl to be fed.
My owner was a heartless sort.
who got me just to help with his cruel sport.
He’d go out shooting and I had to help.
I’d come back with a mouthful of feathers and pelts.
He never took me for walks, we never played.
I was imprisoned alone, I felt sad and dismayed.
I had no company, I had no life.
Just a heartless owner and his callous wife.
Then one day I heard voices outside.
We hear you keep a dog outside?
No, not me, my owner lied.
But they knew I was there, by my sorrowful cries.
We need you to unlock this shed, they explained.
My owner did so, and he wasn’t ashamed.
He thought that a shed didn’t class as outside
but there are no windows or warmth my saviours replied.
And that’s when my life started to get better.
And that’s why I’m sending you this poetic letter.
Thank you Dog’s Trust for saving me.
I’m now happily part of a dog-loving family!
